Monuments

Monuments are unique guardians of history and culture. They are like open books that tell us stories about past times, heroes, artists, and innovators who have enriched our heritage. They represent an indispensable part of urban landscapes around the world, shape the identity of cities and remind of key events and people who shaped the past.

In our town center, two monuments are particularly visually interesting: the Monument to the Defenders in the Homeland War and the Monument to the Fallen Anti-Fascist Fighters.

Monument to the Defenders in the Homeland War

This project, as the first monument dedicated to the victims of the Homeland War in Ivanec, carries a deep emotional significance for the residents of Ivanec.

The central element of this monument is a stone pedestal raised from the water that serves as a solid foundation, surrounded by constant changes. In the night environment, it becomes a source of light, providing light in the darkness. In the background, raised from the lawn as a symbol of the nation, there are slender columns made of "laminated" glass. They represent the guardians of history and witnesses of past events.

At night, each of these columns becomes a lighthouse illuminated by subtle lighting from below. During festive occasions, candles are placed next to these columns, further emphasizing its symbolic importance.

Monument to the Fallen Anti-Fascist Fighters

The Day of Anti-Fascist Struggle is commemorated on June 22, 1941, when the First Sisak Partisan Detachment was founded in the Brezovica forest near Sisak. It was the first anti-fascist unit not only in Croatia, but also in this part of Europe. In this name, the "Monument to the fallen anti-fascist fighters" was erected in the center, depicting this unavoidable part of domestic history.
