The owner and miller was Danijel Posarić. The mill operated its own horse-drawn wagon and provided grain milling services as well as the processing of pumpkin seeds into black oil (seed oil). People from all over Varaždin County, known locally as “poljari” (farmers), used the pumpkin seed processing service. The process of obtaining black oil could take up to three days. During this time, those waiting their turn gathered in a special room where they socialized. These gatherings often included singing with live music, card games, and storytelling about various life experiences.
To this day, the mill’s attic contains a small room with a built-in chimney and a south-facing window where the mill owner lived. Given the complexity of the production process, nothing was left to chance, and the owner was always ready to step in and resolve any immediate issues.
The owner’s dedication to his work was evident in how he personally maintained (sharpened) the large millstones using a specially crafted tool known as a klepač. These steel tools were custom-made by a blacksmith located nearby on R. Rajter Street. (Unfortunately, this old blacksmith's workshop was demolished in 2016.)
The process of maintaining the millstone was referred to as klep by the locals. It was well-known that the first batch of flour after sharpening was of poor quality and was usually used as animal feed.
A testament to a bygone era is the preserved large wooden press for oil processing and other features of the mill’s interior. The mill ceased operation in 1985.
